What Would Be Good Pirate Wench Accessories?
Ahoy sassy lass!
If you are you looking for some great accessories to add to your pirate girl costume to make it that bit more authentic and to make you stand out from all the other ordinary wenches, then I have some great ideas for you!
Pirate Boots: There are 2 ways you can go here, the short length boots, that are just above the ankle or you can go for the more sultry look of the high heeled longer length, fold over cuff boots. Either of these would be an awesome addition to your costume.
Parrot: No depiction of a pirate is really complete without a parrot perched on the shoulder, and that can apply to female pirates too. There seems to be a connection between the loud, gravelly-sounding punctuated speech of pirates and that of parrots you could use some of your pirate lingo and a fake parrot to be a fun finishing touch to complete your image.
Pirate Cutlass: No matey should be caught without one! This would be a cool accessory as it is the weapon most associated with the pirates – they were ideal for fighting in the close confines on or below deck. You’ll need your trusty cutlass to help you defeat those pesky pirates!

Pirate Pistol: Maybe you are not a sword kind of girl and would rather be seen with a pistol. No Pirate girl is safe without a weapon, so carry a pistol with you and show those other landlubbers that you can take care of yourself!
Skull & Crossbones Necklace: A ‘must have’ for every lass with a penchant for pirates! A skull and crossbones necklace is sure to add some seafaring style to your look.
Fishnet Thigh High Tights: Finish your pirate image with some black, fishnet thigh highs. This would be a sexy addition to any pirate costume this Halloween!
Striped Tights: If you are looking for a less sultry look then some black and white striped tights would be a great way to complete your outfit and as a added bonus, they will also keep your legs warm if you are going trick-or-treating.
Pirate Earrings: Don t all pirates have earrings? How about adding some Jolly Rogers to you ears? A pair of dangling skull and crossbones would be an eye-catching accompaniment to your outfit.
Eye Patch: For some reason these just seem to go hand in hand with pirates. There are the plain black ones that you can buy, or if you are feeling a bit more glitzy, then believe it or not, there are even rhinestone eye patches! It all depends on what kind of look you want.
Pirate Hat: Nothing finishes off a pirate costume quite like a pirate hat does. It s pretty much a must have . The only thing is that there are so many kinds to choose from. There s the classic black hat, then there s others with white feather plumes, or the kind with a long draping scarf underneath, some with skull and crossbones on them, and also the more glamorous swashbuckler ones. It all depends what your style is.
Pirate Bandana: If, however, you are not into hats, then another headpiece that really compliments a pirate costume is the bandana. They come in all different types, too. There are ones with skull and cross bones on them, satin ones and even ones with a buccaneer wig attached to them!
Blacken Some Teeth Out: Finally, don t most pirates seem to have lost some teeth? Too many drunken brawls, I guess. Why not think about blackening out a tooth or a couple of teeth, just to make yourself look a little more authentic!
Hope this has given you some ideas to give your pirate girl costume some finishing touches to really catch everyone s glances on Halloween night!

Who Is Anne Bonny?
Anne Bonny is without a doubt, history’s most infamous woman pirate, she was a plunderer, a cut-throat, a sailor, a ransomer, a raider, and all in all a general menace to maritime commerce in the Caribbean. Most pirates probably would have considered her to be a great asset to their trade!
Anne was born in a the small town of Kinsale, Ireland in the late 1690′s. She was the daughter of a penniless maid and her well-to-do lawyer boss, who was already married. When their affair was discovered, the two of them ran off to America and established themselves there as respected plantation owners in the state of South Carolina.

However, for the young Anne, the rural comforts of plantation life were far less exciting and alluring than the stories being passed around in the nearby port of Charleston, which was a well-known pirate haunt at that time. There, she met and married a small-time pirate named James Bonny, and the two moved to New Providence in the
Caribbean (which is now known as Nassau).
Charleston had been bad enough, a virtual pirate’s den, but in comparison, New Providence was literally the capital of pirates. Pirates more or less ruled the city at that time. Surrounded by many legendary figures such as Calico Jack Rackham (the man who is thought to be the person who invented the skull and crossbones symbol) and Charles Vane – Anne’s husband ,James, had a really difficult time keeping his wife’s attention.
After a short time there, Anne left James for Rackham, joining the latter on his pirate ship. Due to the fact that the pirate code explicitly forbade females on board, she secretly disguised herself as a man and fought valiantly alongside the rest of the ship’s crew.
However, needless to say, it was only a matter of time before she was discovered and confronted. According to legend, the first fellow shipmate who was the first to express anger at having a woman aboard ship, paid for it with his life. She, reportedly, stabbed him through the heart, right there and then.
As it turns out, however, Anne was not the only female on board. Also disguised as a male crew member was a woman named Mary Read, and the two of them became best friends. They shared their secret with Rackham, and the trio happily spent the next year wreaking havoc throughout the Caribbean until Anne became pregnant. She gave birth to
her child in Cuba then returned to the ship, apparently abandoning her child.
Ironically, it would be another unwanted pregnancy that would later save her life.
In 1720, Rackham’s pirate ship was captured by some pirate-hunters. During the battle, Rackham had apparently cowered in the hold of the ship along with most of the crew, while the two women stayed on deck and tried hard to fight off the attackers. After their capture, Rackham and the other men were dutifully hanged.
Anne and Mary were both pregnant at the time, and they escaped instant execution by pleading for their childrens’ lives. Read was sentenced to hang after giving birth, but as it turns out, before she could do so, she died of a fever in jail.
For some unknown reason Anne was granted a reprieve, and what happened to her afterwards is uncertain. Some accounts say she went back to her father or her husband, and others say she resumed the pirate’s life.
Whatever she did, and wherever she ended up her memorable words that she is supposed to have said to Calico Jack Rackham just before his execution have been passed down through history. She said she was sorry to see him in jail, but if he had fought like a man then he wouldn’t be now hanging like a dog.
